Ever.
And not just the fact that they’re an eye-sore, and aren’t anywhere NEAR a bodyline, its that they require you to BEND OVER to reach down to pull on them.
Its one of the WORST design elements in automobiles in the past decade.

Hope they fired the guy who was responsible for this. I get it , gullwing and all that but could have designed something better.
But I guess Doug was super excited for them because he could spend an entire 5 minutes just talking about this one Quirk.

kinda makes sense for gullwings tho..... the lower on the door they are the easier it is to lift em up like that

I think they were constrained by the location of the gullwing door latch.

disagree
my kids couldn’t reach the rear door handles with their hands sideways enough to pull it open. forced me to play chauffeur to perfectly able children

Not particularly related, but I drove some cheap Ford compact (Focus maybe?) as a rental a year or two ago, and I was horrified by the door handle placement on the inside of the car.
The handle was all the way at the front of a fairly long door, and there was no other way to grip the door, so there was no easy control over how wide the door opened. I’d hate to regularly park that in a lot with a car next to me.

I’d rather give up my wire less fob and have to use an actual key every time, than have to bend down to reach for that handle.

They could have hid it better
Or made is less obvious/low mounted
Or mounted it... not on the door at all
But they had to copy an old design I guess

even then.... its still easier
its like......lifting a 2 by 4 at one end... real easy if you’re at the end in need of lifting... a lot harder from the end that stays low

Another excellent specimen . Hidden in a body line.
But still pretty low...

If you have a bad back you’re not getting into or out of this thing without help or a trip to the emergency room anyways.

I haven't watched the video so I don't know if it was mentioned, but when locked the handles suck in and go flush. Much less obvious. But I'm definitely not disagreeing with you.

I was thinking more along the lines of it CAUSING back problems, with the constant bending down.

Maybe, but honestly it’s less effort than bend ing down to put your shoes on.

That’s fine. When you cash out your 401k to buy an SLS, just get a camping chair to sit in every time you open the door.

I’ve been skipping through trying to find the hood release handle...because Im dumb and thought thats what you said. Thank you for stopping my search.

But they aren’t. the yellow isn’t nice, but I don’t usually care for yellow cars. I think the SLS is one of the best looking cars period and I think the handles look good.
To me it doesn’t mess up the vehicle side profile at all, though I do have to say the best door handles are the C6 Corvettes

I was waiting for someone to comment “WELL WHERE ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO PUT THE HANDLES , SHITHEAD?” and I was going to bring up the C6... or a TVR where the door release was on the underside of the mirror.
I like the rest of the SLS design, I just hate how the smooth door is broken up by an ugly rectangle in the middle bottom for the door handle.
Like, there’s a character line RIGHT THERE in the top half of the door. Put the handle there.
You can’t tell me there’s not room inside for the handle mechanism, rods, links, and the window bits.

There is a leverage issue with it in the middle if you do need to pull at all. Plus it looks like the original gullwing Mercs. I guess i just can’t see why you dislike it. I like it.

It breaks up the otherwise clean lines of the door.
I’m not jerking off to the 300SL so maybe I don’t get it why they’d carry over that ONE design (besides the doors themselves)
No reason why it can’t be placed better/hidden, and the door open with little effort no matter where the leverage is.

eh, I don’t care either way. I like both. it is smoother without
it, but lacks character that way.

I guess. It does look better without the hand le , but the handle isn’t ugly.
Mirror poppers would be cool on it... I need to buy a TVR

In my mind, I just imagined how hilarious it would be if they didn’t move where the handle was for the conventional doored convertible version.
